The lighthouse and quarters was built in 1908. Initially the lighthouse was oil operated and connected to Turtle Bay via a Jetty and tramway. The lighthouse began operations in 1910 and was later automated in 1917 and is still in use as an important navigational aid.

The lighthouse keepers quarters have been renovated and are used periodically by national parks staff and volunteers as signage in the area explains, however the buildings are open to the public. There is signage and information to help you understand the history and significance of this site.

Make sure you visit the Turtle Bay Lookout to see the remains of the tramway and read the signage here to respect the work required to build this infrastructure in such a remote location.
