This
campground located in the Girringun National Park. Online booking and payment is required however you can select your own site. This
campground does not permit generators or dogs. The
camp is not within walking distance of the
Wallaman Falls but you can drive and park at the day use area to visit the falls either by visiting lookouts from the top or a 4km challenging return hike to the bottom (see nearby
places listing).
Wallaman Falls is the longest single-drop waterfall in Australia. At the
campground there is a short, easy
rainforest walk to some
cascades and safe swimming holes - these are in fact the headwaters of
Wallaman Falls on Stony Creek.The
campground is grassy but is best suited to tent- based campers, and vehicle-based campers with roof top tents, campervans or motorhomes although there a few spots where small camper trailers will be fine but NOT for caravans. The road in is not suitable for long trailers and the sites are too small.Around the
camp you can expect to see northern long-nosed bandicoots and red-legged pademelon. Whilst platypus, water dragons and saw-backed turtles inhabit
the rock pools. One
toilet block, cold shower and scattered woodfired bbqs, and picnic shelters with water taps. No electric bbqs in the shelters. How to get there:
The falls are 48km west of
Ingham. The road climbs steeply up the range but is sealed all the way. Cassowaries are sometimes seen in the rainforest sections, so please drive carefully. Campers must obtain an e-camping permit and pay their camping fees before arriving at the
camping area.
