The A1 Mine has historically produced in excess of 450,000 ounces of gold and was one of Australia’s longest operating mines having been worked from 1861 through to 1992.

In 2006, A1 Mine Settlement was threatened by bushfires. Not much of the town remains anymore except a couple of houses which survived. The whole area was burnt including Gaffneys Creek and Ten Mile.
