Burke and Wills camped here on 25/12/1860. Having left
camp 73 late in the afternoon, they made their way due North. It was extremely hot. They were still being followed by large groups of aboriginals and being harassed and made to move off their intended direction. They had planned to have stayed at
camp 73 for Christmas day and so decided to
camp once the aboriginals had left. As a result when they awoke next morning in the distance Wills saw the Diamantina River.
