Burke & Wills Camp 72. - SA

Burke and Will arrived here on 22/12/1860. This was their 1st sight of Sturts Stony Desert. They had left Camp 71 a first light and when they saw the Stony Desert they made camp. Sturt had passed through this desert twice before and his descriptions of barreness and lack of water did not encourage Burke and Wills to commence walking it in the heat of the day. Wills also noted Sturt had headed due north on his travels so next day chose to head north west to try and skirt around the desert.Picture is of the desert near camp 71
