The siding consists of a 1,855 m loop with a spur line that is still used today to service an iron ore
mine at nearby Mt Christie. At 9.30pm on 1st September 2008 a train carrying goods to
Perth from
Melbourne derailed near
Mount Christie. The intermodal train was proceeding into a passing loop in order to cross with a train travelling in the opposite direction. Approximately 20m before
the loop, 12 of the train s wagons derailed, falling onto their sides and blocking the line. The oncoming train was immediately halted. There were no injuries associated with this incident.
The west end points and approximately 2.2km of track has been damaged on the east side of the east end turnout and 300 mtrs of damaged track west of the west end points. In another incident, a collision occurred not far from
Mount Christie Siding on 22nd February 1997.
