Information
Charleville is a large town in outback Queensland. Settlers arrived here in 1862 and by 1900 it was an important service centre for the many nearby sheep stations. Cobb & Co. began building coaches here in 1893 through until 1920. Apart from its links with the stagecoach it offers history buffs various museums and landmarks - details can be obtained from the local tourist information office. As with most of the towns mentioned in this part of Queensland, rodeos are popular during Spring so you might like to check local events before planning your trip. These events can really capture the essence of outback Australian life and are an opportunity for station workers to test their skills in a public arena, but with the emphasis on fun. You haven't had fun until you've seen how country people do it!
