This is where it is time to top up those fuel tanks and top up your general supplies from the Shire-run local store. The store has all goods that you are likely to need and the prices are very reasonable compared to other remote outback locations.
You cannot guarantee you will get fuel here every day of the week and fuel is generally available only according to the servicing times:-
Monday - Friday fuel available at the following times:- 9.30am, 10:30am, 11:30am, then 2:30pm, 3:30pm, and 4:30pm.
Saturdays - 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am only
Sundays - closed.
Note: people usually queue up - there will be tourists and locals alike, even people carrying jerry cans.
The community of Kintore began in the early 1980s when the Pintubi moved back to their traditional homelands from the government settlement of
Papunya. Know locally as Walungurru, Kintore is situated 530km west of
Alice Springs in the Pintubi homelands.
