Flowering Acacia puece to add to existing pics of the Waddywood. These trees are the few just south of
Boulia (there is one in the
Boulia CBD). Another common name by some wood workers, particularly carvers, refer to this as purple gidgee. Acacia peuce has a density of 1425 kg/m3, compare this with common NQ silver-leaved ironbark (Eucalyptus shirleyi) at 1235 kg/m3,
Cooktown ironwood (Erythrophleum chlorostachys) at 1220 kg/m3, and our tyre scary common scrub mulga at 1200 kg/m3. As a comparison northern silky oak (Cardwellia sublimis) density is only 560 kg/m3. The flowering occurs about mid June - as do many other acacias.
