I am having a new van built and would appreciate input of the best set up for electric over hydraulic disc brakes.
Any advice as to best brand etc would Be appreciated.

We had the ALKO disc brake and iq7 system fitted to our Q+. This is our first DB setup and I have to say after correctly bedding in the rotors and pads it has worked so much better than our previous drum setups. We have been in Tasmania for 10 weeks now and that increased efficiency is appreciated in such windy and steep hilly terrain found on the South island. Whilst I think the ALKO system is good I reckon there are several aspects of it that could be better.
In that vein AOR are moving to the Hyrdrastar DB system which in a technical and functional sense better. My brake specialist in
Adelaide is a real fan of this system and has installed it on some seriously big trailers hauling some very heavy stuff.
I would recommend speaking to a independent technical expert on this as they will give you the best balance of technical and practical advice. Happy to recommend our bloke but he's in

Kimberley have been using Hydrastar for at least 10 years. Haven't heard of any complaints !

Is AOR still fitting the Alco Disc rotors?

Tony AOR will move to Vehicle Components for
suspension and related brake components as
well. The Hydrastar unit replaces the ALKO iQ7 disc brake control and activation setup.
Yes we are still on the South Island. In
Devonport just tidying up over the next few days in preparation to hop on the ferry Wednesday evening

I have had the Hydrastar unit on my Evernew built in 1989 and would not consider any other system. Simple to use and maintain and brakes evenly every time.

I have had a Hydrastar unit on my van for 8yrs now and the most important thing that was said to me was change the brake fluid every 12mths.
