After the dust of the PDR, Chili Beach provides a welcome respite. It can be windy but just
camp deeper in the rainforest and be more sheltered.
The road from the PDR to Iron Range has had an upgrade and is now driver friendly. From the
ranger station/mission turnoff to Chili Beach is always a bit rough. The area is now set up with limited
camp sites and it may pay to book a site. Wonderful place to
camp and fish. There are toilets but no showers, fresh water within 7 km for part of the year otherwise a long trip back to the Main Rivers is needed. Best fishing is South along the beach at the creek mouth - beware of the tides cutting off the beach route.
There is a spring
water tank for people to use at
Portland Roads just up the road. It is mostly for people passing in yachts since
Portland Roads is on the main shipping lane to Torres Strait.
