The rockfill wall of Jounama
dam forms a pondage with a gross capacity of 45.5 GL. This allows pumping of up to 28 GL by
Tumut 3 Power Station, usually at off-peak times say from 1 to 5 am and thus at a lower cost to Snowy Hydro. The same water is used to generate peak demand power around 8 am or 6 pm, earning the Snowy four times what it costs to pump up into Talbingo Res. During a year more than 1000 GL passes from Jounama into Blowering via a small hydro station producing 14.4 MW. If Blowering water level is too high the spillway with its three combined radial gates is put into operation.
