Coward Springs
Campground was once a station on the old Ghan railway line. The site was constructed in 1888 and abandoned before the line was closed in 1980.
Greg Emmett and Prue Coulls have been the resident hosts since 1991. They built facilities, planted hundreds of locally native trees, restored the
heritage buildings and much more. It has been a popular stopping point along the
Oodnadatta Track for many years for good reason. Cowards Springs offers large campsites with vegetation separating each site. Of particular interest to visitors is the opportunity to soak in the natural "spa". Each site has its own fireplace but it's BYO wood. Toilets and hot showers are provided. A museum is open April to late October.
Day visitors are allowed between 9-5 for a small fee.
NOTE: You can collect old railway sleepers about 10km from Coward Springs if you don't already have some wood. There is no firewood collection at Coward Springs.
