Arltunga Historical Reserve in the East MacDonnell Ranges NT. Arltunga was officially Central Australia's first town. It was established in 1887 as a result of a gold rush. Mining activity continued for 30 years, and at it's peak the population was around 300 people. There are remains of mines, old miners camps, buildings, 2 cemeteries and machinery.
Sites are spread out so allow a few hours for your visit.
The visitors centre has displays of old machinery and photos, toilets (including disabled) and drinking water.
