A copper smelter was built in 1873 to process copper ore mined in the surrounding hills. The main relic is a rectangular stone chimney but other remains of the smelter are visible and surrounded by a security fence.

The access road changes to gravel about 10 km from Bunya Highway and continually crosses Fat Hen Creek until it starts to ascend into the hills to the smelter ruins. A track continues into the hills but there is a "No Through Road" sign just past the smelter. There are some quite steep grades on the track for those who interested.
