Information

With the discovery of Copper in the nearby Burra Burra Creek, the rush was on and by 1847, this Powder Magazine was complete. It was used to store gunpowder for blasting of the ore from the rocks faces of the mine. The Powder Magazine was constructed well away from the mine working and was constructed with an arched roof for added strength in the event of an explosion.

The building was restored by the National Trust of South Australia in 1976 and is believed to be Australia's oldest mine building.
