Hi,

Re Barrett 950 with Barrett 910 Mobile Autotuner

I am urgently seeking a pinout for the DB25 Accessory connector to the "4-Pin" control cable "Minifit" connector. The appropriate connectors are not with the devices and alternatives need be soldered up ASAP.

Purchasing new cables is not an option . A technical solution is needed.

Thanks and Regards,

Steve I

[ Edited with Accurate Information ]

Supplementary: An Image of the connector was found in the Service Manual for another radio (see attached image).

This leads to the following deductions (from the Technical Supplement and "Loom 980E TO GPS, ATU and Emergency Switch" Diagram):

Radio
DB25----->Colour ----> Minifit ----> Function

14 ---------> White -----> Pin 1 -----> Scan
18 ---------> Red --------> Pin 2 -----> +13.8 Int Out
6 -----------> Blue -------> Pin 3 -----> Tune
13 ---------> Black ------> Pin 4 -----> GND

Further Information (From 910 Technical Manual that others have helped me obtain - Thank You) and confirmed from "Loom 980E to GPS, ATU and Emergency Switch" Diagram

Radio
DB25----->Colour ----> Minifit ----> Function

14 ---------> White -----> Pin 1 -----> Scan
18 ---------> Red --------> Pin 2 -----> +13.8 Int Out
6 -----------> Blue -------> Pin 3 -----> Tune
13 ---------> Black ------> Pin 4 -----> GND

Simplistically, this tuner is a "switch inductor in and out" style Impedance Matching Device. You cut and restore power and then the device starts a tune cycle.

You appear to have your answer thanks to those above. Next time I would go to Barrett themselves, I have always found then very helpful even to the point where they specially made up an old style autotune unit for me when my mine failed and I found the new model wouldn't fit on the existing mount.

Thank You for your insightful response :-)

I did approach Barrett. They do not keep any records on nor do they support "Legacy Equipment".

One NEVER should post on forums without approaching manufacturers first.

Barrett was incredibly helpful in providing a name and contact (that I will not supply openly in here - but will supply via direct email if required).

As for answering one's own question - No I have not. This was a request for verification of an assumption

“Assumptions are dangerous things to make, and like all dangerous things to make — bombs, for instance, or strawberry shortcake — if you make even the tiniest mistake you can find yourself in terrible trouble.” (Lemony Snicket)

It is also putting information out there to assist others that can be picked up by Search Bots to help others !

Stephen are you indicating that Barrett don't offer a repair service for older models?

The Radio is in excess of 20 years old. Barrett Service were fantastic in that they put me onto a known "Legend" in the RF and Communications field that assisted me with a solution. I will not post details here as I do not want that person swamped with enquiries. But for genuine requests please email me :-)

As for whether they still service these you will have to take this up with Barrett.

There are many great RF Engineers and Comms specialists out there. Again I can assist with the names of some that may be able to help. Any good 4WD or Amateur Radio Club should be able to assist with names of good and competent repair agents.

As to whether you can still get entitlements for different services (i.e. Amateur, Chook Band etc) I cannot answer these questions.

I will update the earlier post with 100% accurate information (for reliable Googlebot crawler pickup) so that information is not lost in the ether.

I thought that I would add this. If one does not include a connector for Barrett 900 Serial Comms when making such a cable up then one is near insane !
