Cairns to Cooktown coast road

Late January what year?

If you are talking now, there is one major creek to cross and then all that mud.

That part of Queensland Is copping lots of tropical rain at the moment and it would be the last place you would want to be at the moment

All creeks will be up, even the concrete sections will be very slippery.

Do you intend to tow a van, camper trailer or go through solo?

It very much depends on the luck of the draw, ie when the monsoon trough drops down and whether there have been any cyclones to dump rain. When I used to do the hunting/fishing/camping thing in the Daintree (a long time ago), we had a bit of a rule of thumb that you'd probably be ok pre-Christmas. Have a look at the
BOM data for Cape Trib Store 1939-2022 and I reckon you'll have your answer.

No guarantees one way or the other. Last wet season you would have been fine in January. This wet season - no way. All you can do is to wait until close to when you want to go, & be prepared to to take the longer sealed route to Cooktown. Even that can be impassable at times. It's just how it is - Wet seasons are unpredictable.

Plan to go toCooktown/laura via the Mt Carbine road BUT...if you get lucky with the weather gods...do the Bloomfield. Slippery conditions, debris on road and rising creeks will stop you. DO NOT tow a van over it when there is any chance of moisture on the road.
