I am needing to get a windscreen or dashboard mount for my mobile phone. I am interested in members' experiences both good and bad with your choice.

Thanks
Glenn

G'day Glenn, the best I have used is the Scosche magnetic type. Available in different configurations to suit your application. I think mine came from JB Hifi. Well made solid mount that just works.

I've a Scosche mount that fits in the cd slot. Great on the tar, anything more than mild corrugations and it vibrates off. I have the magnetic plate about two thirds of the way down the phone so it sits higher, this probably creates a turning moment that exacerbates the problem, but the phone is very light. I am considering adding a rubber band around the phone for corrugated roads. Previously I have found windscreen mounted phones tended to overheat in summer. My go to mount is the floor mounted RAM. Plenty of discussion on this site.

I've used eBay cheapies on the windscreen for small devices. They are ok until they fail, usually way too soon. Bodgie on-road repairs have seen me through but on the whole, unsatisfactory as you might imagine

But I have a RAM windscreen mount for my Spot tracker. It's rock solid.

I also have a RAM floor-mounted system for my tablet/navigator, which is also excellent.

RAM are universally highly regarded in the accessory mounting field. They get my tick.

Cheers

I've watched a review by Stefan Fischer of a Seasucker suction cup mount with RAM fittings, seems to be a good combination.

I bought that combo after watching that video. Using it now on the current trip for an Android tablet. Seasucker mount is impressive. Not a cheap option, depending which RAM mounting hardware you get with it.

Baseus Automatic for me, just put phone in the holder and it grabs it and holds it securly. Also charges the phone.

Quad Lock with wireless charging head does the job for me. I’ve moved mine from the windscreen to further down the dash as I find the phone gets too hot with wireless charging when I’m the sun.

The quadlock mount also requires the compatible quadlock case fitted to your phone.

Yes, I have a Quadlock for my phone on my bike. Very high quality and very satisfied, but no experience with QL products in a vehicle.

Velcro on the phone case, velcro on the dash.

Has been serving me well for 3 or 4 phones, 9 years and 2 utes now.

That worked for me on the last vehicle for the iPod. I actually use an old phone to run torque pro to monitor vehicle parameters and act as a digital speedo, so placement options are limited, so unfortunately I don't think I could find a surface that's flat enough or big enough and in the correct place and orientation in the current vehicle. The phone is only used for calls via Bluetooth so doesn't need to be visible and can sit in my pocket or in the cup holder if the navigator needs it to stream music.

We have a Carmount. The first one failed after about 6 weeks due to a manufacturing defect, so they sent another one FoC. It's been fine for 6 months despite the awful potholes in our sealed roads after La Nina's visit!! Haven't tried it on dirt yet.

Hi Glen
I have two STRIKE phone cradles mounted in my Prado150.
love the clean, sleek lines, the wireless charging and passive aerial ability for the iPhone 13. Robust too.
I have used the RAM cradles in the past and they too are robust but somewhat ugly when no phone installed.
Will be aiming for the Strike iPad mount soon too to run my Exploroz App once I am convinced iPads are legal for nav purposes.
Hope that helps,
Roy

I’ll second the quadlock eco system. I use it on car, motorbikes and bicycles. One case on your phone and different mounts. I use the wireless charging head with the antivibration damper on a car mount. Works well but as someone noted, ALL windscreen mounted phones need to be protected from sun when it gets really hot as they will overheat.

The only phone I've had that hasn't overheated on the dash was white in a white case.
