I know we haven't needed these for a long time on the Canning but we used to carry air displacement pumps for 44 gallon drums that were called Canning pumps. The idea is the design allows pressurisation of the drum via your compressor and the fuel comes out through a centre pipe. I used to have several but no longer do. Anyone seen a supplier for these lately?

Tanami Pumps are still available, the post I checked referred to pumps suitable for jerry cans though.
I’ve not heard of Canning pumps.

Yes that's correct. Tanami pumps are the Jerry can version of the same thing. I guess I could make a Canning pump

Using a drum bung, drill a hole and fit a tyre valve to it, ie, as in wheel. Also drill a hold so a plastic tube can be passed through and seal it. Weight at end of suitable length tube. Screw into drum, add air pressure and there you have it. Why buy one when it is "simples" to make one? Not high tech! Can't anyone make things anymore?

Yes it is simple to make one. I'd have no trouble doing so and have made plenty of things including dual swing out wheel carriers, battery management systems, overhead consoles etc etc . In this instance however, I'm looking to buy because I have too much on my plate preparing other things on top of working a squillion hours at present. Sometimes convenience wins and I'm not ashamed to take advantage of it when it makes sense to do so.

I've made plenty of things in the past as well. Mainly mistakes.

I made the 2 devices above. Never had to use either, so far.
The top one is to pressurise a 200L drum to pump the fuel out.
The bottom one I don't want to talk about. :) :)

I sourced one a few years back. Still have it here in the shed. I've sent a message to the supplier I bought it from back then seeking advice as to whether he can procure one for 200lt drum. Will let you know how I go.

Cheers.

No luck. Email response today. Not able to source the drum variety. Sounds like I'm lucky I bought it when I did.

Sorry I couldn't assist.

Mick.

The Tanami pumps are available - Tanami Pump - Metal Jerry Can Transfer Pump - maybe they may know f the Canning models are still available.

Remembering back there were other models available including one for 22 gal drums. For those who like trivia quizzes, what was its name?

I have a small bung one I made, available to anyone who want it, Sunshine Coast location. Any more than 2psi rounds out the drum ends nicely I found.

Hi Trevor,
It can be sobering to consider that at 2psi there will be 760lbs (344kg) force on the end of a 44gal drum.
With a compressor capable of 100psi a gentle hand would be wise.
Cheers

The genuine Tanamai (et al) pumps were equipped with a pressure relief valve. I would think the ones discontinued would be the ones for 'plastic' containers, maybe because of bursting??? ( my thoughts).

BTW in a previous life I had experience with aircraft fuel tanks with a similar system.

Not an answer about air operated pumps, but for diesel at Well 23 I used a 12 volt drum pump, open drum drop in pump and hose, connect to a 12 volt source and pump away, very effective. The one I have came in a pouch and has a flat hose attached. Maybe an option for your needs? 12 volt pump @$94 or eBay pump @$11 and many in between
