Am towing an 18ft semi off road caravan north to Tsv in July using the main highway. Wanting to do the return trip via Burdekin Falls
Dam then on to Mount Coolon and Lake Elphinstone. Can anyone tell me what the road is like south of the
dam down to Mount Coolon.

Hi Michael,
Not sure of the current road conditions but I did the same trip several years ago towing a Aussie Swag camper trailer and had no problems at all.

We did that road in 2018. Some of it was ok. Some was rough. After around 80kms we came across a "rough road" sign. Me and the missus had a laugh." Couldn't get much worse than some we had just been through" we thought. It was 1/2 a km of bulldust. What fun.
Watch the "floodways". They weren't gentle. More like V shaped.
May have changed because Mt Coolon is the workers
camp for Adani and Carmichael.
Nice camp at Lake Elphinstone.

Hi Michael,
We left Elphinstone on the 19th of May to travell up to Burdekin but the road under the spillway was closed,
dam at 102% capacity, so we had to go from Mt Coolon to Belyando Crossing.
Check with Sun Water, or the
dam website to see if the road is open.
We also travelled this road in 2018 towing 18 ft Bushtracker without any problems.

Was that on the Sutton &
Bowen development roads. Worse roads than the Cape I reckon.

Yes it was, roads are not a problem, van tyres at 22 psi car tyres at 28 psi with a speed around 60 to 70 kph.
You do have to watch for trucks though, they are carrying gravel for the access roads for the new Ardani
mine, uhf 40.

FYI The road south was easy. A few dips but nothing problematic.
