I always just thought they were big old plants or clumps, and die off in the middle. Didn’t think about there being no new ones coming up in the circle. I would guess that sometime down the track something would grow there.
I wonder what happens after a fire, as I think where spinifex has got to the “ring stage” that country hasn’t been burnt for a fair while.
I hope this research actually produces something beneficial, other than already employing someone. Otherwise Could be just a “useless piece of information “
It is interesting tho.
Cheers

Nah Shane, all information is useful, provided that it reaches someone who knows how to use it.

Doesn't it simply grow outward from the centre which has to be circular by nature of it. Maybe the start dies off. The centre on many plants do similar. I hope the scientist didn't get paid valuable research funds to discover something which has such vital importance. Mushroom do grow in a circular pattern, amazing, now where are my research $'s?

Dragons Breath.
These fairy circles also appear in different parts of the world. In Namibia besides the fairies we were told that it is caused by dragons breath. When the dragons were fighting if their firey breath hit the ground the grass will grow in a circle around that spot. You can see some in the bottom right in this photo.
