Grows on poor sandy or stony soils. Thick trunk carries wiry leaves usually over 1 metre long. Small flowers are arranged on a thick spike up to 3m long, held on a smooth, stiff bare stalk up to 1 metre long.
Identification
The main flower colour is white. Long flower spike and long wiry leaves. Often many plants flower simultaneously after fire.
Uses
The abundant nectar in flowers is food for many insects.
