The camping ground now known as Wugudaji-Adels Grove was opened in 1984 by a private tourist operating group from
Mount Isa. In 2020 the site and business were taken over by Waanyi Advancement Limited Group, a commercial entity that fosters the economic development of the Waanyi people.
Wugudaji Adels Grove is just 10 km by road from
Lawn Hill Gorge and is on the same river. Thanks to a French botanist in the 1920's there are now huge shady trees to
camp beneath. Cabins are available and a relaxing meal can be had in a pleasant setting with an Aussie bush flavour. Bookings essential in high season.
A 15 min stroll up to the
lookout for sunset will allow reception of a Telstra signal.
The camping ground is is a large shady area situated on beautiful
Lawn Hill Creek. There are no set sites in this area and is very popular for family groups wanting to
camp together. Small campfires are permitted but no pets or generators. Amenities blocks are located between
The Grove and Top camping areas.
The Top Ground area is set in natural bushland with over 60 set sites. Many sites have a fireplace and/or tap available, though water is limited by gravity fed pressure. There are pet-friendly sites that can accommodate visitors wanting to use a generator (rules apply).
There are also air conditioned bunk houses, Outback ensuite rooms and Eucalyptus ensuite rooms.
Since taking over Wugudaji Adels Grove camping grounds, the new owners have been doing some much needed renovations to the facilities/grounds and are now concluding phase one of those renovations, which has included some major and restoration/construction. We are endeavouring to bring all of the facilities at Adels up to scratch while at the same time keeping the natural beauty of the area.
The camping ground will re-open on 17 March 2023 following the wet season closure. All reservations or queries by email above.
