Mutawintji is a National Park jointly managed primarily by local indigenous personnel with assistance from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Once a sheep station passed through by both the Bourke and Wills expedition and later by its rescue party led by William Wright and then called Mootwingee, it is now a park with significant aboriginal heritage values and going by the preferred indigenous name, Mutawintji.

There are a number of walks in gorges and creeks and guided tours of parts of the aboriginal historical area are available. Walkers can also register for multi-day self sufficient access to the adjacent Wilderness Area, but be warned - the area is extremely remote and arid with extreme summertime temperatures. Seek advice before embarking on such a hike.
