Mount Tietkens was located and named by a Bureau of Mineral Resources field party. Named after explorer William Henry Tietkens who traversed this area in 1889.
Today's travellers following the
Gary Junction Rd will find there is a nice area to stop just in view of the mountain and many people have made a
camp here. Please be aware however, that Kiwikkurra list this site as "No Camping".
(not to be confused with the other Mt Tietkens located in the NT near Batton
Hill).
