Access to
Mutawintji Gorge is by a 3km walking track from
the Gorge carpark which in turn is about a 10 minute drive from
Homestead Creek campground.
The gorge walk is among eucalypts along a
sandy creek bed with the occasional pool depending on the season. As you get further into
the gorge there is less sand and more
rock scrambles until, at the head of
the gorge, you reach a semi-permanent pool that would be a nice swimming hole if it had not been massively contaminated with goat droppings.
This is a hot, dry area. Wear a hat and sunscreen and bring drinking water.
