Copperfield
Gorge has been eroded in dramatic black basaltic rocks by the
Einasleigh River . This area is the southeast boundary of the Undara lava fields and here the river has cut through the lava flows giving visitors a different aspect from that of the lava tubes further east at Undara.
Einasleigh is a small town on the banks of the river. Once a copper mining town, today it consists of a pub and a
post office as
well as a stopping point for the Savannahlander train.
Einasleigh is probably one of a very few towns that can boast that a train stops outside their pub on request. The
gorge carpark is 500m across the road from the
Einasleigh Hotel.
