ExplorOz Newsletter - Issue 38

7th January, 2003. In this issue: Vehicle Setup Product Feature, New Interactive Trek Fuel Database, Forum Updates, Past Competition Winner, and Hema Maps Competition.
Dear ExplorOz Reader,

Welcome to the beginning of the 2003 year. Hopefully, this year you will be able to get out there and do some travelling - so don't forget that anything you want to know is probably here on www.ExplorOz.com

We received some valuable feedback from Members and site users last year that (as always) steers the path of site improvements. Since last newsletter there's already been some new improvements added:

Vehicle Setup Product Feature

Twine Shower Kit Feature

To complement the recent addition of this accessory item into our Adventure Shop, we have just launched a new feature showing the installation of the shower into our Field Research Vehicle. Everything you need to know about what it does, how to use it, technical specs, installation and pricing is here.

...and to top it all off, Twine are giving away one Deluxe Shower Kit to suit your vehicle to one lucky reader of the ExplorOz feature. All you have to do is enter your details into the competition box on the feature page. (NOTE - the entry box will disappear after you've seen it once per session).

New Interactive Trek Fuel Database

With so many interactive readers on ExplorOz, we've come across a great way to get some excellent data for fuel usage right across Australia.

Every Trek Note (and there's 76 of them) on www.ExplorOz.com now shows the average fuel consumption using data that is entered by other travellers. The system takes the entered data and builds the table of fuel requirements for each trek that is displayed in the table of facts at the top of each Trek Note.

The table displays the averages of all entries categorised into groups of vehicle's based on engine size, engine capacity and fuel type. eg. 6 cyl, 4.2L Diesel.

To view the individual entries, simply click the icon to see the data table. The data is shown for each entry plus summarizes the average calculations for each vehicle type.

So dig out your fuel books and start entering the data into the TrekFuel Database. All you need to enter is your engine type, fuel type, distance logged and fuel used in Litres. The system will display your entry in real time and will even calculate your Km/L and L/100Km.

Access is via the TrekNotes - pick the Trek you wish to update and within the body of the trek itself you will see the icon to update the TrekFuel.

Forum Updates

With around 11 new questions and 60 responses each day in the forum, we've realised it was time to put in the time of each post. On the Forum index page, you'll now see at a glance the Date and Time for all 3 parts of the post - ie. the original post, the responses and the followups. The time of the Latest post to Responses and Followups will be displayed (note: shown as server-time, which is Qld time).

Past Competition Winner

Congratulations to Mr Peter Mercer of the ACT, who was the lucky winner of a new set of Rhino Bars and an Alloy Luggage Tray to suit his 1996  Landrover Defender Station Wagon TDI 300.
