Well my journey has started. Off to a slow start up the Toowoomba Range with visit to an Aunt in Toowoomba, and to collect some items to deliver to her family and friends in Winton, Bedourie and Windorah. I was also given the names of some people to contact in Western Qld while on my trip. There are also some additional family graves to visit when Outback, to ensure they are not forgotten with the passage of time.

Also called in for a visit to one of my sons who is just about finished a stint working with a GP in Oakey.

Then on to the Gil Weir on Dogwood Creek, 4 km south of Miles along the Leichhardt Highway.

This is a well-maintained, free camp ground, with the raucous sounds of white cockatoos, cattle and roosters doing their thing as dusk settled in. More about the cattle later. With the Easter weekend starting tomorrow, I was amazed that I was the only camper. Maybe tomorrow!

There is a basic single toilet which is clean and well stocked with the necessary. There are plenty of rubbish bins, and the sandy track seems to be regularly graded, with quite a number of cleared and clean, shady campsites.

After a feast of traditional home-cooked corned beef sandwiches (provided by my Aunt),washed down with a cuppa, I'm calling it an early night, and think about my trip to Augathella tomorrow. Beside, the mozzies are too thick and viscous to work outside.

Unfortunately I bypass Charleville, but there will be another day.
