Bourke or Burke ? Which is correct?

I’m hoping so as I used that spelling on a video I’m putting together atm
So Eo Topo looks like it’s marked incorrectly

Each state is only responsible for names within their own state.

Do you know the road is in Queensland, therefore nothing to do with New South Wales.

I've since opened your link and now remember that I've driven that road at least 4 times - once with the RedeX Bash around 1979 and a three times since.

And, with the benefit of hindsight, I agree with Paul that, as that town was named after Robert O'H Burke, the spelling is correct.

Wikipedia tells me that " .... It was not until the mid-1800s following a visit by colonial surveyor and explorer Sir Thomas Mitchell in 1835 that settlement of the area began. Following tensions with the local people Mitchell built a small stockade to protect his men and named it Fort Bourke after then Governor Sir Richard Bourke. "

Lesson learned.

I think Macca was referring to Burketown. Being named after Robert O’Hara Burke Not Bourke
Have been to Bourke many times over the years. Also visited the Stockade.

So it does. One for D&M to fix next edition, I suppose.

Interesting...I suspect the road label error has originated on OSM.. as this is the main data source for such details.

If someone fixes the error on OSM it will automatically be picked up in our next data conflation.

If it was ever wrong on OSM it seems to have been corrected sometime before today (16th Sept)

My Dad always made sure of spelling and early on he made issue of people who said "oopta" and mentioned they were not correct and didn't care. Some even got Clare wrong because of their girlfriend Claire. Shea- Oak Log must fox a few.
