Gday Peter,
That trip in 2011 when we found those princess parrots was the best trip I've done out there. The parrots swooped over the front of my vehicle - never seen anything like that before or since. Can understand why their sightings in the desert country is to be treasured. Its one of the reasons I keep going into the GVD.
Cheers
Phil

The most recent report I heard was of a "large flock" of Princess Parrots in the GVD.
It seems that they migrate about over significant areas depending on rain and feed, so where they were seen last year may not assist you to find them this year.
Cheers,
Peter

'That's right. The parrots were seen in the same area in 2012 but not since. But the area was a beautiful part of the desert with lots of mature marble gums.

Marble Gums seem to be their preferred nesting trees.

Hi Peter_n_Margaret.

Thanks for the information on the Princess Parrots and their preferred nesting trees. That sort of information narrows the search area a bit. Have checked out the link you sent and the one Phil G sent, which is a great help indeed.

Kind regards Ray.

Hi Phil G,

Thanks for the information on the Princess Parrots, the brother a I were camped at Jupiters Well in July of 2018 for a night and didn’t even give the Parrots a thought. Very stupid of us, last year and this year been planing to up the Connie Sue Highway to Neale Junction and camp for a few days to try and site the Parrot. But as everyone is in the same boat with the covert19, the access to the WA interior is out of the question. The chap who wrote the article left an email address for other people to contact him, so I’ll contact him and pick his brain. Thanks again.

Regards Ray.

Raymond J,

Just going through the process of applying for permits to do Connie Sue and Anne Beadell at the moment. Leaving from NSW. No rejections so far.

Hi Gramps,

Just wondering if you could keep me informed on the success with permits to travel the Connie Sue. The brother and I are still heading off in mid July to do the Darling and the Murray to Adelaide, than the Googs track. But if the Connie Sue is able to be travelled the blinker on the cruiser can be turned on and the car can be headed west. Thanks again.

Regards Ray.

Ray,

Applied for Connie Sue permit last night and received OK today. Excellent service from the Ngaanyatjarra Council. Could not ask for more. Mind you, I'm receiving the same excellent service with all the other permits I'm chasing at the moment. Everybody concerned has been extremely helpful.

Regards

We too were camped at Jupiter Well in July ‘18, for several nights. Had my birthday there, but saw no Princess Parrots. Didn’t even know they were a thing then. A week or two later our sighting was at ‘Jarra Pool’ in Karlamilyi . I saw it very clearly & had to look it up to find out what it was. Later we heard of organised trips to try to find them, often without any luck. Seems they are quite nomadic.

Hi Cuppa'

The brother and I was at Jupiters Well on the 23rd of June 2018. Just missed you by a week or so, would have been good to have a chat to you. Hope to see you sometime on the track somewhere.

Regards Ray.

I don't know of any sightings in the NT. I was lucky enough to see a solitary Princess Parrot in Karlamilyi NP a couple of years ago, before I knew they were a bird that folk put a lot of effort into seeing.

Hi Cuppa,

Thanks for the info on the Princess Parrots, as I went through Punmu in 2018 and also did the CSR IN 2017 with a side track to Desert Queen Baths. The brother and I unknowingly didn’t try hard enough to find the parrots. Going to try and head off later in year and will spend a lot more effort in trying to spot them. Thanks for the information.

Regards Ray.

Travelled into WA from NT mid March and a large flock was on the water at the crossing of Elder Creek..western edge of Warburton community. The wife was super happy to add them to her list of bird sightings

Hi Murray,

Great to see that your wife saw the parrots and such a good spot as well. There is a good amount of sightings around the place of them. Checking the restrictions on entering WA and gaining permits. Thanks again for the information and I hope I’m as lucky as you and your wife.

Regards Ray.

Off topic, but:-
Re entry to WA......must get G2G Pass which will require an address in WA, but, we have yet to be checked by anybody despite being in the state for a couple of weeks - now we’ll into central wheatbelt - G2G available online just keep a screenshot/copy to show authorities. Permits for Great Central were a breeze, and we even had to alter dates due to wet weather in SA slowing us down.
Enjoy your trip, enjoy the bird chase and have a great holiday
