I'm after a new Navigation tablet.. it'll be permanently mounted in my vehicle. I need 64GB of storage.. has anyone come across any cheaper ones recently? GPS essential of course, but I don't need Mobile Data capability. 10.1" screen preferably..

have you done any research yourself ? Got some brands in mind . How are you going to "permanently" mount it in your car .

Its a replacement for an existing permanently mounted Tablet (RAM Mounted).. Of course I've done some research.. the obvious candate is another Samsung but I was hoping someone had bought one of the budget options recently and had good experience.

I had a quick look at Kogan's site. It looks like you can get acheapie like this and add an extra microSD card than it is to get a model with your full memory requirement from the list.

I would be sticking with a Samsung rather than going for a no-name cheapie.

right so it's on a ram mount. My suggestion is the lenovo tabm10 .3 FHD for around $250 . It's what i run for exploroz. Or a samsung if that floats your boat

I have just moved to a 10 inch tab from an old Hema HS7.

I was advised to get one with sufficient RAM, 4GB or better so it can comfortably handle all the functions needed simultaneously.

I ended up going with a Samsung S6 Lite, cost about $500 but has been faultless and a big improvement.

I don't use it for any internet but could just use the phones hotspot if needed.

Got it on a floor mounted holder and its great.

Not sure about the cheapies but not worth quibbling about I don't think

I’ve just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, 11” screen, 8gb ram, 256gb. Not cheap at $1050, but runs smooth as silk with no lag and fits in my Ram Tabtite holder perfectly.

I was using an 8” Samsung Tab 4 previously, but need the larger screen these days. The additional processing power of the Galaxy S7 is brilliant, particularly if running a couple of apps side by side.

I upgraded to a Tab S6 with similar specs and have the same excellent result for a few $$ less. Given the other tasks the tablet can do (depending on your needs) it is worth the money. The Amoled screen and picture quality is second to none.

Thanks everyone.

My original Samsung has been tremendously reliable.. seems folly to not go that route again.

Appreciate all the input.

I went with a Samsung S5e which has a better screen (super amyloid) than their series 6 cheaper tablet range.
Has 4gb of ram and 64gb of storage. I put a 128gb card in it.
The thing is faultless and the battery lasts for days and days on standby.

You can pick them up new old stock for about $450.00

I'm not sure that's correct, Steve SC23.Here's a comparison of the S5E and the S6

The display on the S6 is the same as on the S5E (ie, not inferior) and otherwise beats the S5E hands down in other specs.

I have not used an S5E, but my S6 256gb is fabulous.

I believe the different models of Samsung tablets withing the same number offer different screens. Ie, not all S5's are the same, nor are S6's and S7's. It pays to do the research.

Hi Frank. I don't think i was very clear in my last post.
I wasn't referring to the full blown S6 top of the line model, rather the lesser offerings such as the S6lite which are in the S5e price range. the S6lite has a TFT screen which is very much inferior to the Super Amyloid screen of the S5E and S6, based on my previous experience in daylight using these things.
I bought the S5e because of the superior screen, and as a bonus it was $45.00 cheaper than a S6 lite.
It also has better GPS specs.
Hope this clears things up.

Thanks Steve. I also have a Samsung Tab A7 10.5 inch. The A series have a much inferior screen, though the one I have is excellent in all other aspects, but not as good as my top-of-the-line S6.

Then there's the S7 which is a step above again, but in various levels of refinement depending on model chosen.

They don't make it easy to choose with their Lite and standard and Plus variations.
