We lived in Jabiru East and then Jabiru from 1980 to 1984 and saw the mine and town develop, and stage 1 of the park declared. Just as we left the roads were being upgraded to all weather bitumen and dollars were going in to tourism infrastructure. Lots has changed in the last 40 years, not a lot for the better in recent times it would appear. Four corners is discussing current issues for the park tonight. We will be watching with interest, but mindful of the filter needed for reports by southern journalists blowing in to northern Australia.

They were saying on the radio this morning that there is a lot of trouble brewing there at the moment and until things change, the Traditional Owners are closing a number of major tourist drawcards this season in protest.

I wonder if this is mentioned in the report

Closing sites in Kakadu - that'll make the punters happy. Just as I was hoping to revisit after 15 years. Better watch the Tele to get the facts LOL...

Useful article, covers what 4 Corners did. They've got 6 months to sort it out. No point going if Ubirr, Maguk, Jim Jim, Twin falls, Gunlom are closed.

Interesting timing of this story, as there is also a concurrent investigation into the private use of royalties funding by members of the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation. Interesting to see what comes of both issues.

I am really saddened by so many places I as an Australian taxpayer cannot see or do. I fully respect custums and traditions but they should not prohibit me 100% of the time.

"They" don't. Out of interest where did you want to go and what did you want to do CSeajay?

Twin Falls and Jim Jim Falls were closed because the road hadn't been repaired. Not sure if the whole of Gumlon was closed or just the walk to the top. The camping area and the pool at the bottom are pretty good in their own right if the toothy critters haven't taken over. One issue that we had way back in the 1980s was that many areas were open to the public for limited numbers of visitors by permit, the catch was you had to somehow know which ones, there was no way of finding out except by word of mouth, again a Balander management issue, not a problem with the owners. Why the joint management has failed is a mystery to the outsider, it seems to work at Uluru, perhaps the model was tweaked by the time that was setup only a couple of years later.

Many places Bazooka, it is all over the forum. i should have said that I was not specifically referring to Kakadu, sorry.
We cannot travel our country freely. Permits, some hard to come by, some places you have to pay to drive 200 m into the town to see the beach, some places barred just because an office is unmanned, etc etc etc

I am not able to comment as such, however, Parks Australia are putting out a media statement soon.

When I see it I will post a link.

It doesn’t look like a media statement is coming, however, those interviews were done in September last year.
A lot of god work has happened since then and we have been told it is busyness as usual. If you planned to come to Kakadu this year, I wouldn’t change your plans.
I can’t comment any further.
