How good are Falken Tyres

I tossed up between the two. Toyo and Falken and went with the Falken and they’re great so far. 35000km in and theyre half worn

We did a trip Home to Alice Springs, and back home via Oodnadatta, Adelaide and Robe, one car with Falken, one with Toyo , both full size wagons loaded up as you would expect. There was less than a hairs breadth between the performance of the two, they both did extremely well in all conditions. When I priced then both back here for the Ranger they were identical in price and I went for the Falken as they had 4 for the price of 3 deal. Very happy with them.

I am assuming you are talking about “AT” tread pattern? I have looked at quite a few different AT tyres over the years, have had Coopers, Mickey Thomson, BFG’s. I prefer a slightly more aggressive tread pattern, particularly for wet gravel roads, and have had the Cooper ST and the equivalent Mickey Thomson. I am over Cooper Tires with their tendency to split side walls, have had three sets where all of the tyres have suffered side wall splitting with most having been replaced under warranty.

I was advised to try Falken Tyres by an independent tyre dealer, but they do not have what I am looking for with a slightly more aggressive tread pattern. I currently have a set of Toyo Open Country AT’s on my caravan, and they seem OK, although have not done much traveling since fitting them very early last year. I am planning a 3 to 4 month getaway this year, travelling to The Kimberleys, so I am looking at Toyo Open Country RT (Rugged Terain) for the car.

I went for the Toyo Open Country AT II as I wanted Light Truck construction.
I couldn’t find this rating on Falken specs for their 285/75R16 AT tyres.

Yep Macca the AT Falkens are the ones I was talking about. Both cars and both tyres did the Oodnadatta and they both performed flawlessly. In the end I couldn’t walk past a 25% less bill for a set of tyres when 90%+ of the driving is on macadam. Both priced exactly the same per tyre.

I also tired of Cooper tyres performance. Three sets all split sidewalls, lost lugs or just wore .... really fast. STT’s, ST’s and STC’s. Had warranty replacement of one set due to tread lug loss and the guy asked me about tyre pressure which I adjust for dirt rock and macadam as well as sand ...

He was surprised i knew so much and didn’t argue the replacement.
