Planning a trip to Cania
Gorge NP Qld with our caravan. Not sure which caravan park to stay in - Big 4 Cania
Gorge Holiday Park or
Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat. Any thoughts on this? Thanks Geoff & Sandy.

Hi Geoff,
My vote is for the Big4 Cania
Gorge Holiday Park. Lots of wildlife, activities and a huge water park. Various food options. Their Saturday night wood fired pizzas are excellent.
Cheers,
Al-one

The Tourist Retreat is a much more laid back park.

We have stayed at both. The Big4 has a few extras - tennis courts, jumping pillow etc. The retreat is outside the NP and allows pets. Big4 bumps prices up over school holidays. For two adults, two children was going to cost $101 a day for a powered site. Retreat was $54 a day. The amenities are probably a bit better at Big4.
In the area:-
Longhorn cattle at Mungungo.
Old Monal Gold fields.
Glassford Creek old copper smelter
Kroombit Tops, Beautiful Betsy.
Silo art at
Three Moon.
Monto water tower art.
There is about 1000km of dirt roads in the old
Monto Shire (before this Regional Council malarkey), nearly all of them circle about. Very few just end out in the boondocks.

Link below to map of old
Monto Shire.
The road to Ubobo from Kroombit, also connects to Monal Road, and the old Monal Goldfields, and then on to Mungungo and
Monto. There is a very steep 4wd, often in poor condition gravel range to climb.
Childs Road leads to the
Many Peaks -
Monto road, and goes past historic Glassford Creek smelter site. There is a steep descending dirt range just before the smelter site. The road from the smelter site to
Many Peaks -
Monto road is 4wd track.
Yarrol Road leads to the
Monto - Mt Perry Road.
Dingley Dell Road, and Rawbelle Road in the west, lead to Camboon, and to
Eidsvold -
Theodore Road.
Kroombit Road does NOT go to Kroombit Tops!
Rideout's Road/Kariboe Road is NOT a shortcut to Cania
Gorge towing your van.
GPS will tell you Hampson's Road connects to the
Monto - Biloela road - It does NOT!
