Hi,
I have searched or tried to search. Still learning. New member. I purchased the recommended usb serial port GPS mouse. I have loaded the input setups from the CD rom. I have set up the port with the 4800 baud and other required settings. I go outside to get satalite coverage and try to test the GPS with the app that loaded with CD rom. I give it plenty of time to initialize. The GPS mouse is flashing red LED as required. I wait and wait but no GPS infor or co ordinates appear. Not sure what else to try and do to initialize this new device in PC Windows 10 with latest updates. My PC is working fine. The GPS appears to be working fine. Port settings are Baud 4800 Data Bit 8 Parity None Stop Bit 1 and Flow control None. Any assistance will be welcome. Thanks.

Ozi Explorer has a utility on their web page called GPS Port Checker. It may be useful. You haven't said what mapping program you are using or what device you are using it on. Giving the whole picture can help with problem solving.

I will look for ExploreOz Webpage GPS checker, thanks. Software is ExploreOz with the recommended Map download package. Device is BU-353-S4 SiRF Star IV USB GPS. The device comes with cd rom software. It loads a GPS checker app. Hardware looks to be ok. My USB port is set correctly. No GPS coordinates initialize. I will lok at the GPS checker within ExploreOz web site. Thanks.

I am not a computer expert , but isn't a series port and a USB port entirely two different things? it is either one or the other unless it has an inline adapter to change to USB. They have different connectors and different address bars inside the computer. You mentioned 8 bit, but the windows 10 computer is likely to be 64 bit, there may be a mismatch there too.

Have you used the windows help or inbuilt problem solving to find and ID the GPS?

USB - Universal Serial Bus. Of course serial plugs are big ugly 9 pin things of the past, almost no computers now have those sockets. My first GPS puck was serial but it plugged into a serial to USB adaptor which then used a USB socket on the laptop. Much simpler now.

Yes, I had one of those on an earlier handheld GPS to connect to computer. Cumbersome thing it was.

Hi 46

On this website, go to Products, Traveller, Support Help, GPS set up on Windows.

Reckon that may get you out of trouble.

It may be as simple as turning moving map to 'on' in Ozi?

Hi 46

I use one of those GPS Mouses and they do not require any initialisation, and yes I use it on windows 10, as well as windows 7

Are you using OziExplorer?

If you are, then in one of the tabs you must select the type of GPS you are using, and you must select USB MOUSE.

Once you do that you then need to go to GPS checker and then do 2 more things.

In that you need to check what com port you must use and make sure you have the correct Baud rate as detected by the GPS checker.

Hope you get it sorted as it can be frustrating
