The rock was cut by the Chinese Gold Miners to divert the river thereby slowing the flow into the bend. This enabled them to collect the gold in the still water of the bend. Considering it was cut in the 1800's its not a bad effort.

The reason I had for the cutting was the same as yours, but I don't think Harrison is an old Chinese name.
I must have a look for more information. I have been there a few times and it was always flowing fast and clear.

Thanks for sharing - are you able to create a New Place for this as it doesn't appear to be in Places. As you have the name, photos and the story (description) all you need is the lat/long coordinates to add it.

Treasures Hut's are actually private property unlike most of the other Mountain Cattlemen Huts so I will decline the opportunity to include their exact location.
