For those that like to explore the places they visit, rather than just driving straight through, they sound be able to pick this grand old Gold Stamping Battery.

Do you know where it is?

This is the Venus Gold Stamping Battery in Charters Towers. It is the largest l have ever seen but apparently it was one of the smaller ones in Charters Towers in its Hey day. Did a great tour in November 2018. The guide used to operate it on tours 20 yrs ago.

This Battery is not in Queensland, but in South Australia.

There was no O.H & S back in those days and speaking to an ex local from this place said you could “hear it in action 20 Miles away”

Yes No OH&S in those days. No earmuffs either. The next biggest ones l have sent is in Maytown in Cape York, on the Palmer river goldfields.

I reckon it is over in the west. The cams that operate the stampers rotate all the stampers in the same direction. Most of them over the east I have seen rotate stamper 2 & 3 in the opposite direction.

Government battery on the shores of Lake Harris SA? Not to far from Glenloth??

This is the Glenloth Battery shed, still in very good condition seeing its over 100 years old

This Battery is slightly older, but the shed that houses it has seen far better days.

Well done Peter

I knew it was going to be easy to pick.

By May 1901, the battery was working 24 hours a day,
