XTM40 Fridge freezer

G'day all,
Bloffy from WA here. First post on this forum but I have stalked it in the background in the past.
I have been a four wheel driver even before I could afford one. Done one and a half hot laps over the years. Been a 4WD club member and even secretary for several years and even did a "little bit" of offroading while wearing green pyjamas and, more recently, orange ones (SES).
I run a bog standard extra cab (or whatever) Nissan Navara with a tray back and a leaky (at the moment) tradie cover that I am trying to do up as a cheap as chips camper.
I love hiking, kayaking and camping and trying to convince my Truly Significant Other of 30+ years that she will enjoy it to.
As I am on shoestring budget, I am looking at getting an XTM40 fridge freezer but can't find any reviews. Anyone here got one or otherwise.
Please don't start a debate on why your Engel is so much better or your 2000 year old Waeco is tops. I agree. I have had both and used them both to death . Just want to find out if the XTM is any good.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Bloffy

Good day mate, I can't give an opinion on the xtm, but you stated you have had engels and waeco, so what happened to them. I know for a fact that engels are near indestructible, having had one for 20 years.

It was about 15 years ago, but from memory the compressor gave out. The Waeco was something to do with the power supply I think. Both were well loved but beyond repair according to the people I took it to.
Shame about the XTM. I'd really like to know.

Have you googled it. I did a quick google and dozens of reviews came up including youtube ones.

I suggest you try that.

Same here .. on BCF web site $ 550 that's about half of most fridges .. plenty of reviews on their website of purchases.

No mention anywhere that I can see of the power consumption.

It must be on the high side you'd think.

Can't help with a first hand review sorry Bloffy, but Secop compressor (probably the standard BD35), 2 yr warranty with cover for ~$550 sounds good. Not sure black is a smart colour. Makes you wonder sometimes.

Not much to go wrong with most of these Chinese (presumably) re-brands really. Friend bought a cheap Aldi fridge a while back and it hasn't missed a beat.

Hi guys,
Two corrections. Firstly, my most beloved pointed out the Waeco was actually an Autofridge. My bad. Still a great fridge. Totally rated it. Was like 70l and never missed a beat for 10 months around back roads of Australia, from WA desert to Cape York in October to Tassie in March for a family of four.
Second was I did see the BCF reviews. Was looking for independent reviews.
Thanks for those that have replied.
Cheers

If it has a Danfoss ( Secop) compressor then consider it. If not then don't go near it.

Hi Guys,

Just looking at the fridge in question, it looks very much like my Waeco 35 Ltr. Similar lid opening, and that is probably the only issue I have with the Waeco, the lid does come off too easily. It is most likely a copy of the tried and tested Waeco. Agree that black is probably not the smartest colour for a portable fridge, looks good, but not practical.

.
Yes, I agree Macca. It appears identical to a Waeco in many respects. I do wonder what the compressor is?
And black is a poor choice to minimise heat absorption through the walls.

Just a heads-up for Bloffy and anyone else looking for a decent cheap 40-50l fridge, albeit an outdated model.

On Sat Sept 12 ALDI is selling an old model Waeco/Dometic fridge, with cover, for $499. Can't see the model details in the image, could be CF40 or 50 - previous ALDI sales have been the CF50 : ALDI Waeco 50l.

No doubt very limited stock and you'd have to be in when the doors open to snag one.

Thanks Bazooka.
Unfortunately I am in Albany and the nearest Aldi is 400km away. I also only have limited space behind my seats and the 40l fits perfectly. Not sure if the 50l would be too big....
Appreciate your keeping an eye out for me.
Cheers

I'd say the Aldi one is a CF40, because the latch is on the end of the lid (the latch on the 50 is on the side of the lid). The Aldi one looks very similar to the XTM 40.

Well spotted Ogre.

If it is the CF40 potential purchasers MIGHT be able to price match in BCF. Saw a Waeco CF40 in my local store for $699 (I think) only 3 days ago. Wasn't paying a lot of attention but was a little shocked to see that model still being sold. It wasn't old stock either. Dometic offloading the last of the model perhaps?
