A quick search shows them around the $100 mark. It might be better to buy a $2-300 Tab the will run ExplorOzTraveller giving you a single more portable unit that does not have a cord dangling from it.

Unfortunately the small lenovo tablets(gps enabled) need a power cable dangling from them them most of the time and then get hot and stop charging(my experience) so they end up becoming the backup..

Hi

There are many to use these days and Bluetooth is the way to go, no cables and easy to use.

I went down that path a couple of years ago. At the time I did not know a lot about them, and from valuable help from members here on the forum, went for a Bad Elf.

Not the cheapest, manufactured for aircraft use And extremely fast and accurate, you can connect up to 5 devices at once, works on both Windows and Apple divides and many more features and will last nearly 2 days before needing to be recharged.

Good luck with your search

How about using your phones gps and bluetoothing to the laptop.
Something like this.

Hi Stefandsal,
I've used this usb gps; its a GlobalSat BU-353 S4 USB GPS. They are around $65-$80 new and weather proof. I had one mounted on top of the snorkel and used it with Oziexplorer for many years on a laptop. The cable length of mine is around 1.5m. As much as bluetooth is cool, my preference is for cable connection purely for reliability.

If you Google the name you will find a number of suppliers. I bought mine from GPSOZ.

regards
Garth

Something to be very wary of is compatibility and windows version

I have a similar unit, laptop did a automatic upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10 and there the GPS mouse refused to work. did a bit of investigating on the chipset used in GPS sure enough not compatible with windows 10

Same applies to the 4GX telstra Wifi dongle I use for data that won't work directly with windows 10 but does using a WiFi signal. The older 4G I purchased 2010 worked immediately with windows 10 no conflicts at all. go figure !

Hi Dean,
I'm not wanting to start a debate or a techie discussion but it will work with Windows 10. I've used a new one on a new Surface out-of-the-box and the one I have (quite a few years old) works fine on my Lenovo laptop. It has been upgraded like yours and did have a problem. In my case the problem was the latest device driver supplied in the Windows 10 upgrade for the device. Reverting to an older one (they are available online) solved the problem.

regards
Garth

I have been running a few different USB GPS receiver modules purchased about 3 years ago from aliexpress.com. All purchased for less than US$10 each. Perfect performance on my acer notebook with OziExplorer.
A search will find several models.

Edit. Am I allowed to post a link?

I paid US$7.40 for this one in September 2017.

There is an app in windows 10 that allows location from a wireless signal

Using the maps app in the computer, I don't think it'd any good away from a signal tower.
