Hopefully the various communities have some control measures in place to control/monitor movement?

I will be able to snoop around quietly given the nature of my work (mostly solo in the bush and then back to home in office) though not many "outback" jobs on the books at the moment If I do get out there will try not to make too many corrugations :)

Just log into a EO tracker or similar so I can follow you from my desk and weep quietly to myself.

Generally won't be anywhere too exotic (compared to some of your previous destinations) just SW WA - though it will be the great outdoors. Have installed Tracker but haven't turned it on.. yet...still house bound for 4 more days.

I think next years holiday season will be one to remember for all the wrong reasons! Every man and his dog will be out and about in full force due to this years Easter holidays being ruined. Looks like we have 6 months of this social isolation so many will be planning next years holidays. From news accounts doesnt look like anything will be open to tourists till at least the end of the year......bugger!!!

I've had to cancel 2 holidays, one in the GVD & one to Broome and a conference in Sydney but I've looked on the bright side of things. Saved a stack of money by not going away, can't break anything in the Troopy, no punctures, saved a stack on fuel, and maybe I'll get to clean out the shed. And if I'm really lucky my wife won't have throttled me by the time we come out of forced hibernation.

And as Bigfish says once this lot is over I think the tourist areas will be swamped with travelers

But, aren't fuel prices dropping? :) Not that it matters, if you can't really go anywhere!

Personally, I'm not planning any traveling until 2022. Based on the 18 months time frame to produce a vaccine for this bug. (Some say it might be available sooner than that. Hopefully!)

Canadace..it takes quite a while for fuel prices to drop in regional and outback areas. Still paying $1.44 in Cairns.

Bigfish, you and many others, are being reamed with no Vaseline, as regards fuel prices.

Below are the Terminal Gate Prices for ULP and diesel over the last 5 days.
This is the price servos buy their fuel at (or you too, if you want to order in bulk).

You can see the current profits on fuel retailing are in the order of 35c/L to 55 c/L - which is price shafting on a scale with armed robbery.

The long-term average profit level on fuel retailing by servos is 2c to 3c a litre.

FNQ has been screaming foul for decades...all on deaf ears..

I've always wondered how much profit was being made on the 3.20 per liter diesel I bought at Warburton Roadhouse last year! Note they also added on a bit for using a credit card.

Granted, they're fairly far out there. But I only paid $0.10 more per liter at Ilkurkla Roadhouse.

I got ULP from BP Redcliffe (W.A.) today, for 87.9c/L.

60 litres = $52.74. It's like living in Saudia Arabia.

The worst part is not being able to burn up a tankful a day!!

you have to realise that they have no turnover in those outback communities I was turning over more than 4 mill litres/year they would be lucky to sell 50,000 litres/ year what do they have to charge to make what I was ? They need to at least cover their cost if they can. maybe they sold a bit more than I said but still its not like their on a major highway or have a supportive rural community eg. farmers
If servos didn't have shops you wouldn't have very many anywhere you can't survive on fuel alone & thats from experience

I lived & worked in Saudi Arabia from 1998 to 2002. At that time, Petrol sold for approx 22 cpl, and it had only just gone up from about 12 cpl. no fuel tax in Saudi, so price is very low.

Hey, Macca - I can recall buying LPG in Adelaide in May 1998, and it was 16c a litre - and there was no tax on it here then, either!

It really mattered to me, back then - I had a Bedford 4 tonne truck with a V8 Holden in it, and a 200 litre gas tank!

I think we were paying about 30c a litre in Perth at that time, they were really shafting us on LPG.

If you are given to wondering about the price of essentials (diesel and beer) in remote places it may be best not to go.

I am usually just grateful that I can get them.

I wonder more how it is that two BP servos barely a mile apart in a suburb adjacent to my home can have a 10c a litre differential on their diesel price.
