Good Morning All

I hope this should be a good place for you to try and pick.

I was important for an Australian Explorer.

Do you know where it is and have you been here?

Happy guessing

Stephen

Would it be the Pondanna Ruins ? Stopped there on our last trip which included the Gawler Ranges area.

Cheers

Well done Tony, that did not take that long.

Have you been there?

The Explorer was Richard Thelwell Maurice and his lonely grace is still there today.

Yes. It is Karrarinarri Rockhole in Ngarinarri Claypan in the Gibson Desert. Also more simply known as the Warri Site. It is the spot where Warri and his wife Yudonga were located on 19/8/77 . They were then taken to Wiluna as noted in Rowdy’s post above.

The site is accessed from the Eagle Highway.

Cheers,
John

Hi Mick.

The mystery object looks like a silcrete protuberance that has had a section removed by aboriginals to make into hand tools. Either that or it has been run over by an inattentive 4WD or quad bike driver.

The location looks very similar to Mulgan Rockhole near McPherson’s Pillar.

Cheers,
John

Bit of a ways from Mulgan John but in the general vicinity (138km further west). It's part of the Warri and Yatunka story and a photo features in Peasley's book of the journey - Last of the Nomads.

It's a stone and it has a special name. I have found several over our journeys all markers of a water source within a certain direction and distance from the stone. I nearly hit one hidden in long grass but not this one :-).

OK Mick. The Warrida Stone is near Walloogoobalrockhole where the searchers first found footprints, a windbreak and the remains of a fire.
Peasley has several pages devoted to this part of the search.

All the best, Graham.
