In the early stages of planning for our next trip and for something completely different, we are looking at exploring the option of traveling from Madura pass to loongana (TAR) then up to Illkurlka roadhouse.
Have mapped everything we need from Illkurlka west then North (heading to billiluna), but i am looking for some info from Loongana to Illkulka.
We would need to travel through Tjuntjuntjara. Any one offer any advice or info as to how successful you have been in being granted a permit to travel through this area?

Phoned up three years ago, asked vehicle make, model, rego and dates. They e-mailed permit out. Impressed they added four weeks either side of the dates we expected to pass through. Was good as we were ten days later than expected.

I went that way Oct last year, was a good run, not much of a challenge navigational wise hehe Madura fuel prices were a bit over the top and the electonics on the bowsers were playing up.
Not a real lot to see, some strange barrier fencing well before Loongana that seemed crazy.
From Loongana it was difficult to pick up the northern track because of overgrowth around the old air strip.
At the community it was a bit of a struggle to navigate the way through town at night hehe.
Leaving Illkurlka I also went west but to Laverton since east via Anne Beadell was closed for war games.
Next year I will have another run the same way but turn right to Woomera.
