Time warp

I drove into Burke & wills road house & must have driven thru a time warp there it was, like it had just driven out of the show room & with its caravan did not even have the optional extra free wheeling hubs

Three wipers slung from the top of the screen, positioned perfectly so when you switched them off all the crap ran down the screen. They were very tough vehicles though, only have good memories of them.

And an exhaust positioned perfectly to singe the calf if you weren't careful when getting out.
We had one on an oil exploration crew in the late 70's. It was driven by 'Pussy' (for the black beard and wide grin) the powder monkey. He specialised in turning off the motor just as he came over a rise in the line, all you saw was a glimpse of a white Datsun full of explosives and then bang the backfire.

The G60 was such a robust piece of engineering, it was possible to fit a 6-247 Perkins/Mazda T4100 diesel into them, with excellent results.

Saw one in Broome the year before last (it's a local rig), and I know there's a few still doing farm hack service.
Rust has got most of them, they were buggers for rust in the rear body section.

Check out JONGA. The Indian Army bought some G60's in the early 1960's to try them out, and they were so impressed with them, they ordered 12,000 of them.

However, they didn't buy Jap-built ones, they got a licence from Nissan to build them in India - and thus was born the JONGA (which stands for the Jabalpur Ordnance and Guncarriage Assembly - the Indian defence equipment manufacturer).

The Indians stopped building the JONGA in 1999, and both the military users and Indian civilians were appalled. So they find old JONGAS now, and restore them, and they bring big money.

The JONGA factory actually produced 100 JONGA's fitted with 4 litre Hino diesels and sold them to civilians - but that appears to be the limit to their diesel JONGA production.
