Howdy All

I reckon if 25,000 EO users put in $200 each then I could set up ExploreOz Racing and tweak my Ranger a bit to participate in next years Dakar !!

Obviously I will drive and maybe Mick O could navigate - I would probably have to take out my fridges and replace them with tools and spares but hey, I will cope !

Allan B could be head of electrical - both Ron's could do mechanical - Michelle can do permits and entries and I'm sure with some other members we could be on a winner AND the podium !!!!

What do ya reckon ???

Cheers

Gazz

Howdy qldcamper

I would put my house on me getting further up the leader board in my Ranger than if I took my 200 series !! One can only imagine how many millions Al-Attiyah's Hilux is worth and with probably no original Toyota parts on it at all !

Anyway - I'd be happy to leave my Ranger at home if you lend me your rig :)

All good mate

For many many years - long before this politically correct BS surfaced I was always telling people that " everyone is different "

And I have also been told by many many people over the years that I AM very very different - and so be it !

Re: the missus -
My first wife said to me - you buy that new race bike and I'm leaving !!!

Well, I got three seasons out of that new bike and quite a few trophies and sashes lol lol true story

Hey, Gazz - It look to me, like there's quite a few extra zero's in your figuring - have you been involved with setting the U.S. Budget figures lately??

I reckon you might get 20 EO users to contribute $2 each towards your Dakar attempt - and that's probably just enough to buy some cans of Amber liquid, so you can suck on them, while you watch the Dakar on TV!! LOL

P.S. - Do they even let Fords attempt the Dakar?? LOL

Cheers, Ron.

" It look to me, like there's quite a few extra zero's in your figuring "

A Japanese chap I know was involved with the winning Pajero quite a few years ago and he told me it cost the team over 5 million that year to win - so I'd hate to have only 2.5 million of funding and come second - geez it wouldn't be worth the effort hey !!

Had similar thoughts tonight as I watched the Dakar Peru but might I suggest an alternative and something infinitely more achievable.....FINKE!

Already sort of done that (from the stands) but a well prepared Arctic Cat side by side....I know where there is one ready to go :-).

Dear Mr Gazz - It has com to my atention that yu are in need of some seerious amounts of financhul funding.

I hav to advize yu that yu ar in luck. I am a Nigerian Prince, Prince Shehu Ahebi Adetokunbo Adenuga the IVth, and I am in need of help to get $26 billion Nigerian Nairas (US$71,637,672 dolars) out of escrow in Uganda.

This monies is monies left to me by a 32nd cousins uncle, who banked the monies in Uganda, to avoid seveer taxes in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, seveerly corrupt bank officials in Uganda are now demanding US$1,000,000 dolars to release the monies to me.

I need yor help to bribe these seveerly corrupt Ugandan officials, and you can do that by sending me your bank deetails, computers passwords, scanned copy of your drivers licence, and tax file numba - so I can deposit US$1,000,000 dolars in your bank account, to pay theese severly corrupt Ugandan officials.

By doing this transakshun this way, it ensures there is no link to me paying off these severly corrupt Ugandan officials.

To reward you for the use of yor bank account to pay these officials, I will include an additional $5,000,0000 Australian Dolars in my deposit as payment for yor services in dealin with these severly corrupt Ugandan officials.

I trust you will act with alacritty and help me in this payment endeavour, and thereby also acquire the funding you need for yor Dakar attempt.
Please treet this request as urgent, I await yor immeediate reply with all your personal and banking details.
Yu can contact me anytime on my discreet Yahoo email address - nigeerianscam@yahoo.com

Yours in complete honesty,

Your Highness, your cousins have been calling me anything up to 4 times a day in their efforts to make up the amount owing to those corrupt officials. Well, my husband and I haven't let them get to the "Can we have access to your computer" or "Can you give us your bank details" but we've been highly amused by their amateur efforts.
They usually tell us they're from Telstra and there's a problem with our security or that they can get us a better deal.
Do you think you could perhaps ask them to lay off calling?

Good luck with your efforts but please rule me out.

Respectfully yours
Robyn

Dear Robyn - I am sorry to heer yu are being called 4 times a day by telefone scammers.
I personaly think that is an awful low thing to do.

But I can assure yu that not a single one of my esteemed Nigeerian friends or relatives would stoop so low, as to try and scam Australian people by telefone.

Those scammers would almost certainly be low-life Indians or Ugandans, never Nigeerians.
Nigeerians are the most honest, upright people I know. They would never, ever attempt to cheat rich white peeple out of their monies.

As a result, yu see I am unable to do anything about yor scam calls.

However, I can help you finanshully in many other ways, you only need to contact me by my discreet email adress - nigeerianscamers@hotmail.com - and I will immediately assist you to gain much personal riches.

Yours in complete honesty,

Prince Shehu Ahebi Adetokunbo Adenuga the IVth

I've watched all of Charlie Boorman's videos and whilst I thoroughly enjoyed them I know why he had such difficulties with the Dakar !!

Riding that overloaded already way too heavy from standard BMW he loves so much would be like trying to win the Monaco Grand Prix driving a double decker bus !!

Appreciate your donation but somehow I think your 100 Nairas, Candace's 200 Zimbabwean dollars along with Muzbry's 2 bucks won't even get me a decent roll of cloth duct tape lol

Howdy All

From Allan B ..." Fair dinkum, this forum IS different to most 4WD forums."

Looks like most people on here understand my sense of humour and could see that I was just having a bit of fun. I love the Dakar and have been following it almost since it started in the late 70's ?? I was going to start the thread with
" who watches the Dakar " but opted for the funny side instead as I like to put a bit of humour into a way too serious world !!!

After it left Africa and went to South America ( Chili, Bolivia and Peru ) I watched from home and was fascinated by the countryside, the people and especially the sand hills of Peru - I just want to drive across them !! So I did some research last year on some Dakar Tours and found a couple that were what I was after and started getting serious about making plans for the 2020 event. But Dakar organizers are currently in negotiations to get the Dakar back to Africa next year, so should that happen I won't go to Africa but will still go to South America for a holiday and hopefully arrange a drive through those unbelievable sand hills !

Now, not sure how to say this without sounding big headed but here it is anyway - a few years ago I spent two weeks driving with and alongside 5 time Dakar driver and 8 time Australian Safari driver Shusei Yamada and he said to me on more than one occasion that I should be racing rallies - something about I read the track and its conditions so quickly, perfectly and choose the best lines !
I guess this comes from racing dirt bikes for ten years and riding them for 30 years - made the podium at the Australian Championships one year and would have won the title the following year but suffered a mechanical breakdown one minute before the finish line, but as Dick Johnson always used to say - that's motor racing !!

So I hope you fabulous folk on here understand where I'm coming from and I hope I didn't waste space on this site with my post ?? I loved all the replies and had a good laugh.

I'm way too old to ride a bike in the Dakar but if anyone has a spare 5 mill then I would be happy to represent ExploreOz in a vehicle of your choice and would give it my best shot - as I have always done !

Allan B - you'd probably have half a mill in lost change under your couch cushions wouldn't you ??

Cheers

Gazz

Bottom line is...anyone who does Dakar is amazing beyond words in my books.
I've been watching it for maybe 15 years thanks to my passionate biker hubby (who ironically, Gazz, has a BMW R1200R and frequently points out "that's the off-road version of my bike!" on ads or in real life.)
Some people get through Christmas and then look to hot cross buns.
Some do Christmas and look forward to a bit more holiday before work calls them back.
Some do Christmas and then look to the New Year parties.

We do Christmas and count the days til Dakar starts.

Hi Robyn

The Dakar sure is one tough event and even just to finish is a huge achievement in itself - this year in the bikes there were 149 starters with only 70 finishers. Obviously many didn't finish because of mechanical breakdown and quite a few crashes stopped some from finishing but fatigue/exhaustion also stopped others.

Back in the late 90's I rode in a four day rally in south west England based on the Dakar ( it was organised by former Dakar riders ) and I was just happy to be in the 25% of riders who managed to finish the event - non stop rain made conditions extremely tough but determination, stubbornness and a never give up Aussie attitude got me to the end ! Oh to be young again !!

" We do Christmas and count the days til Dakar starts. " lol - I'm the same.

Thanks for the reply and give hubby my regards

Cheers

Gazz
