It's not a bad road. You can do 70 - 80 Kmph most of the way.

Hi Stockade

As Tony has said above, it is a well formed road and is the unofficial main route that many people use to enter both the Stuart and Eyre Highways without having to go all the the Port Augusta.

Hi Stockade, you could do the run easily in a day but there is way too much to see and do along the road. A nice track is to take the route via Hiltaba to Yardea and a side trip into the Organ Pipes eventually coming out at Poochera.

For some excellent views of the lake and the bounding sand dunes take the track in and behind Middle Tanks you won't be disappointed, it would also make for a fantastic campsite.

We easily covered that distance in 2 days and we weren't pushing it. I'd love to get back there one day and have the time to really smell the roses as it was truly a magical spot. When we did the trip we traveled in early July.

cheers

There appears to be a track running north from Kingoonya to Stuart Hwy , is it quicker than going east to Glendambo and then north on hwy ?
Thanks

The track north from Kingoonya to the Stuart Highway is an excellent dirt road, well maintained and it saves quite a few kilometres.. dont hesitate to use it.
