Would someone have reasonably current knowledge of the road condition from the Stuart Hwy across to Yuendumu via Mt Denison please?
We need to send a light truck (tilt tray) from near Cairns to up past The Granites on the Tanami and was looking for the shortest way. As we all know the shortest is not always the quickest in time.

Thank you,
Joe.

Never driven it, but by the way it is marked on the HEMA maps, I would suggest that it is a "road" not a "track". It would also get relatively little traffic, which is always a major plus.
You can be pretty certain that the local Commodores and Falcons use it regularly.
Besides, it looks like it might go through some attractive country, so I would take it just for that :)
Cheers,

I'd agree with Peter's comments, Joe. Have been on a number of NT roads SE & SW of The Alice this year, but not the Mt Denison one, and they are in generally good order.

Would be worth the gamble, both Fuel & timewise, and if it was too bad the truck could return on another route. Any roads adjacent to communities are going to be hammered, regardless!

The Yuendumu Road in the Northern Territory is partially bitumen out to tilmouth well , but only one lane the .the rest of that Road can vary from week to week but in most parts is quite a good Road . We travelled it in July August and was in good condition then but it can change depending on traffic .

Thanks Nick,
I was after the road conditions of the road from the Stuart Hwy to Yuendumu via Mt Denison, if that road is ok it will save about 400 km for the whole trip.

Thanks to everyone that replied. The short cut was worth doing as the road was in reasonable condition.
