WOOMERA WARNING NOTICE: Access to travel on the Stuart Highway SA will be suspended for up to 12 hours per suspension between 1 October and 21 October 2018

For the period 1 October to 21 October 2018 the Stuart Highway may be closed to all traffic for up to 12 hours. It is anticipated that there will be 9 suspensions during this period but there is the possibility that there may be more closures. The area to be closed is the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) which covers the area from just below Coober Pedy to Glendambo. There will be Defence personnel staffing the road closure points.

Closure is due to the Department of Defence conducting testing in the WPA.

All tracks in the WPA will be closed.

Looks like the Oodnadatta track will be busy on those days.

Depends upon whether they close it on the days the Ghan runs. Also their rocket firings could work around the train timetables as they are predictable. Motorists are not predictable with their travels.

We drove Coober Pedy - William Creek on 2/10 and there was signage at the turn-off to the effect that the Stuart would be closed that afternoon. It was the first I knew of the closures and was hoping that they hadn't just overlooked the side road. Anyhow we saw no mysterious black helicopters, nor got showered with rocket debris so I guess we were out of range.
