My Hema 7 died yesterday. Screen was just vertical lines of many colours, and now I can't even turn it on. Can it be repaired or do I just bury it?

Vertical lines on a display screen CAN indicate the connection from the circuit to the screen is NQR, not quite right.
Has the device been kissing the ground recently? that happening will dislodge the screen.
The screen may have a small, fine multi wire lead to it and it's connector to the circuit board may be loose/ dirty.
You wouldn't know any of this until you open the case for inspection.

If recently stored in cold frost areas, ie, inside the vehicle,ie, frost outside, the problem could be moisture condensation inside the case. The circuitry works on extremely small voltage levels and it moisture is present, just the moisture between components can be a path to confuse the system.
Opening the case and thoroughly drying it near a warm airflow source might restore the unit to working. The turn on not working is, to me, another indicator of moisture inside.
Dry it out and try again. No promises.
If possible place a small packet of silica Jel/Gel inside or keep the device in a bag which has the drier packet in there too.

No actual repair may be required, just maintenance of sorts.

I had that before.
On the back there is a reset button, very small, you need a pen or pencil to press it down.
Fixed it for me.
Cheers

Thank you for the replies. We have been on very corrugated roads (Cape York) and later in very cold camp sites. Ice on windscreen stuff.

Anyway, the reset button has done the trick and will try to remember the advice given.

I have had this experience as well, but it seems to be from overheating. I removed the unit from the dash turned it off and allowed it to cool down. It fired up fine after 20 mins or so.

My Hema 6 gives me a crazy vertical lined screen every now and then.
Most times when it does this, it is also very hot on the back and it does not have to be a hot day to do it.
The reason I think it gets hot, is the battery is stuffed. If I am not connected to a power source it does not have enough power in it to fully turn on before shutting down.
I have been going to rectify that for the past 2 years, but now it is happening more often I will have to get it done.

Cheers

Blue M. I think You're on the money. My battery is stuffed too but how do you change it? There are no Hema repair shops in WA and there doesn't seem to be any way to open the case.

Hi
If you Google "How to replace battery in Hema 6" you will get some answers.
I have changed battery in Garmin but not Hema.

Have ordered a battery from EBay for $18.95 which is 1500MaH and 3.7V. It is an Oricom Secure SL 710 705 703 L-ION.
The HN7 case comes apart by undoing 4 miniscule screws around the edges of the unit.

I had the same after it fell off the suction mount. The reset button did the trick for me too, thankfully!
